Course Outline

Every morning I get up and have to look in the mirror as I shave. This is not a pretty sight first thing in the morning, but I have to look at it. Later in the day I may look at myself and it looks like a different person. I am neatly shaved, my hair is combed, my eyes are not bloodshot. I now think I’m not to bad a looking guy for my age. The mirror gives us an exact image of what is in front of it.  This study takes images from Jesus life and looks them to see how Jesus portrayed a mirror image of God. The six studies take us through aspects of Jesus life and teaching to give us a glimpse into the nature and character of God. We are going on a journey of discovery to see God and how Jesus showed us God’s way, so that we also can become imitators of God.

Session 1 - Mirror Image of the Father

• This session is based on John 14:1-14 and will help you grow in your understanding that God is perfectly reflected in the person of Jesus, who calls us his friends. Do you want to see what God is like? Look at Jesus - he is "the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being."

Session 2 - The One who Understands

• This session is based on Hebrews 4:12-5:4 and will help you gain a better grasp that Jesus is our sympathetic "high priest" who understands our weaknesses and is able to help us.

Session 3 - Following on the Footsteps of Forgiveness

• This session is based on Luke 7:36-50 and will show you that forgiveness reflects God's heart of forgiveness toward us, and the he enables us to forgive one another.

Session 4 - Jesus our Reconciler

• This session is based on Ephesians 2:11-18 and will help you grasp that Jesus is the source of all true peace and reconciliation, both within ourselves and in all circumstances.

Session 5 - On the Finish Line with Jesus

• This session is based on Hebrews 12:1-13 and will enable you to see that Jesus is the giver, the sustainer and perfecter of our faith. He enables us to persevere to the end with him.

Session 6 - Responding to the Cross

• This session culminates the series with a reflection of Jesus on the cross and his dying and being resurrected for us. The study is based on Luke 23:32-49 and shows us that the cross of Jesus Christ is an integral part of our faith and requires a response from us.

We all have a concept of God and his place in our lives and the world. When I was young I had a concept of an old man with a big white beard who lived in a place called heaven and looked down on us. When we were good he rewarded us and when we did bad things, like swearing, we would be punished. As I matured and grew in my faith these concepts changed. The concept of God is now totally different than in my childhood. I am sure this is the case with you. The one true image that gives us a glimpse of the reality of God is portrayed in the life of Jesus. I hope that as we go through these studies you will come to understand God better and in particular how we should live to become like God.
