Matthew 25 Group
GiveMatthew 25 Group at First Presbyterian Church of Newhall
A “Matthew 25 Group” has been formed at our church. These groups are encouraged by our PCUSA national leadership to follow the vision of Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-46, where Jesus asks us to feed the hungry, visit the stranger, clothe the naked, and visit those in prison. In other words, Jesus asks us to care for the least in our society – those who are ignored, marginalized, and not cared for. We are called as a Matthew 25 Group to “act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.”
For example, the Santa Clarita Food Drive by the Missions Committee is one application of this vision. Other applications of the vision ask why these people are shunned by society, identifying causes due to racism, poverty and other ways that society shuns them. The Matthew 25 movement seeks to build the life and vitality of each congregation by encouraging the ministry of the local church to the world around us.
We invite anyone who is interested in this vision to join our Matthew 25 Group.
LUNCHES FOR THE HOMELESS IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Matthew 25 Book Club continues to prepare 60 lunches once a month for the homeless at our local shelter “Bridge to Home.” We are looking for people to provide 10 lunches each of a sandwich, fruit, snack/chips, and water.
The FPCN Matthew 25 Group meets regularly on Zoom (at this time due to COVID). Please use the Contact Us form below for meeting dates and Zoom meeting information. This past fall, we attended the “Biblical Justice” study led by Pastor John Illian from the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. Our Matthew 25 group supported and promotes the upcoming Santa Barbara Mission Conference on January 28-39, 2022.
The Matt 25 Group Book Club for social issues meets monthly on the 4th Wednesday @ 5pm at the church.
